Trunk Show and Meet-the-Designer Event
Recently I was contacted by Langford Market located in the French Quarter about setting up a designer trunk show event featuring my products. Langford Market, an American Apparel store, is a national boutique where shabby chic meets modern sophisticate. The trunk show and meet-the-designer event will provide a venue to sell my artwork and designs, along with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. I'm so excited and honored to be the featured artist of the week in November, concluding with the event on Thursday evening, November 15th. Come hang out with me! Hope to see you there!
New items
I've been excited about adding paintings and other products to my Etsy shop, and now I've finally found the time between filling orders to do so. Below is the first of a series of paintings:
Sew Spring!
I was thrilled this weekend to have a few quiet hours, with bright sun and awesome spring temps. So on Saturday all conditions were set for a parade of color at Audubon Park, with my newly completed quilt. For those of you who don't know me sew-cially (sorry I can't help it), I sew every piece of the quilt top by hand. Sewing by hand is a fairly tedious exercise, but this was the practice of my grandmother passed down when I was 6 that I prefer to the deafening bang of a sewing machine. Sewing by hand also gives me an excuse to simultaneously indulge in time traps like watching Bravohmygoshisthisreallife. Besides, it's difficult for me to imagine doing only one thing at a time like sitting at the machine. Maybe I will reevaluate as I begin to realize that I only have so many quilts in my lifetime, but for now sewing by hand it is.
The best part about completing this quilt? Getting to start a new one. Sew excited!

Press!
I am pleased to announce that Susan Alyse was featured in the November/December issue of Mississippi Magazine! In September I was contacted by a writer at Mississippi Magazine, and was thrilled at the thought of my 3-month old Etsy shop being featured in a magazine that covers the best of Mississippi people, places, and homes. One year ago I frequented the Barnes & Noble in Ridgeland, looking for inspiration from artists and designers that I admired. The week the magazine hit the shelves, I went to that same Barnes & Noble every day eagerly awaiting the new issue to hit the stands and... Tah-dah!
Etsy is such a wonderful tool, because it gives artists an outlet to design and to make a career out of it. No longer are designers limited to their own geographic region, but Etsy enables sellers to reach people across the world. I've now sold in almost all fifty states in the U.S., with seventy-five percent of my orders coming from buyers in New York and California. Twenty years ago most artists and designers would never dream that selling their designs would be a feasible career option, but now online tools such as Etsy have made that possible. I am honored to be included in the Mississippi Magazine article, and so look forward to the future of my store.
Merry Christmas
Wishing you peace of soul and happiness this Christmas. Hope you find time to celebrate, rest and watch football!
My First Post!
Welcome to my blog! Blogging is a new thing for me and it seems there are endless ways in which we can connect with family, friends and people interested in our endeavors. My objective for this blog is to keep you up on what I'm designing as I do what I do in my studio, and to share other undertakings as one tends to inspire the other.
The easiest way to learn more about me is to visit the "About" section of susanalyse.net, and to dig around the site for more information. I'm really looking forward to keeping you updated on frame and painting collections I'm working on, when they will be sold, who will carry them and other noteworthy projects. That's all for now. I need to get back to sketching designs for a new and exciting business venture. Stay tuned!
